When Broadway in Chicago brings Xanadu to Drury Lane Theatre Water Tower Place next January, the cast may include some local talent. Auditions are being held here Saturday through Monday for a touring production of the Broadway hit based on the 1980 movie musical.
This will be the first Broadway in Chicago presentation at the Water Tower Place venue since The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee closed there last year.
The stage version of Xanadu was scripted by Douglas Carter Beane, who made news here earlier this year when he protested About Face Theatre’s mounting of his gay comedy The Little Dog Laughed. His problem: two male members of director Eric Rosen’s cast kept their clothes on in a scene intended to be played in the nude.
